The second annual Regina Royal Road Race in partnership with the Jaleta Pacers and the RCMP took place on May 12. University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Vianne Timmons along with more than 100 University staff and their families took part in the race.

The Jaleta Pacers are a running group that is committed to giving back to their communities by participating in various fundraising events. This year, the Pacers proceeds total of $7,751 will go to the University of Regina Jaleta Pacers Scholarship Fund which assists students who have overcome adversity.

“The Royal Road Race demonstrates what can be accomplished through teamwork. Having the opportunity to give back to the community through this event has a lasting impact on those who will benefit from the Jaleta Pacers Scholarship Fund,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Vianne Timmons. “Physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health and wellbeing and I would like to thank everyone who participated in the event.”

The University of Regina is dedicated to providing a safe and healthy learning and work environment. The President’s Office and UR Wellness launched “60 Days of Wellness,” a special initiative to encourage physical activity and healthy living. Since mid-March and leading up to the Royal Road Race, University of Regina faculty and staff have been meeting at noon in the Administration–Humanities Building pit area for daily walks through Wascana Park or around campus.

The Royal Road Race is a family event that promotes wellness and the sport of running and is designed for everyone -- from walkers to competitive runners. The Jaleta Pacers is a performance-oriented distance running club with diverse membership and all different levels of ability. Members join to qualify for the Boston and New York City Marathons, to improve their running times, to establish a fitness routine and train throughout the year.
