The third annual Regina Royal Road Race, in partnership with the Jaleta Pacers and the RCMP, took place on Saturday, May 11. University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Vianne Timmons, along with more than 80 University faculty, staff, students and their family members participated in the 1 km, 5 km and 10 km events.
The Jaleta Pacers running group gives back to the community by participating in various fundraising events. This year Ted Jaleta presented a cheque to President Timmons for $8,000 for the University of Regina Jaleta Pacers Scholarship Fund, which assists students who have overcome adversity – whether they face physical, mental or financial challenges.
"With more than 500 participants of all ages, including more than 80 from the University of Regina, the Royal Road Race is a wonderful way for the University community and the larger community to promote and participate in physical activity - particularly after the long winter we just had," said President and Vice-Chancellor Vianne Timmons. "At the same time, by contributing to the Jaleta Pacers Scholarship Fund, the event is of direct benefit to University of Regina students. I would like to thank the organizers and participants for that support."
As part of the University of Regina’s commitment to providing a healthy learning and working environment, the President’s Office and UR Wellness held the “60 Days of Wellness” fitness challenge for the second year in a row. As a lead-up to the Royal Road Race, since mid-March University of Regina faculty and staff have been meeting in the Administration–Humanities Building for noon-hour walks through Wascana Park and around campus.
The Royal Road Race is a family event that promotes wellness and the sport of running. The Jaleta Pacers is a performance-oriented distance running club with diverse membership and all levels of ability.
