Two members of the University of Regina community are being honored for their accomplishments – Jason Clermont, who played football for the Rams, and Dick White, the Director of Athletics. Clermont and White will be officially inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Oct. 10, 2013 at Queensbury Centre.

Jason Clermont grew up in Regina and played high school football with Usher Collegiate before joining the Regina Rams junior football team. He was with the Rams when they became part of the University of Regina in 1999. Clermont later played in the Canadian Football League with the B.C. Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders. Clermont returned to the University of Regina to finish his business administration degree in 2006.

“Being a student athlete, I had to learn how to set priorities, manage my time and reach my goals,” says Clermont. “I carried those lessons over to my professional football career.”

Dick White is in his 19th season as Director of Athletics, and under his leadership the athletics program at the University of Regina has grown from six sports to the current 16 sports.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Regina in 1974 and worked as a physical education teacher in Arcola and Moosomin. He returned to the University to work in athletics, and worked as an administrative assistant and athletics coordinator from 1981 to 1988. Then from 1988 to 1995 he was the University of Regina’s Manager of Cooperative Education and Student Employment, before becoming Director of Athletics.

White credits others at the University of Regina for his induction into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame.

“It’s a testament to the coaches, athletes and supportive administration – if they didn’t do a great job, there’s no way I would be inducted in the Hall of Fame.”

Clermont and White join other University of Regina teams and athletes in the Regina Sports Hall of Fame, including Brandy West (McMaster), Cymone Bouchard, Rob Pyne, Chris Biegler, the Cougar’s 2000-01 Women’s Basketball Team, the Cougar’s 1996-97 Men’s Wrestling Team, and Dick Stark.
