International social justice conference comes to U of R
Scientists with an interest in justice issues - from as far away as Israel, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, as well as many European countries - will gather in Regina June 30-July 3 for the 10th International Society for Justice Research Conference.

The conference will tackle the theme Social Justice in the World Today: Theory and Practice. Major sub-themes include justice and indigenous peoples, justice and policing, social capital and civil society, distributive and procedural justice, justice in educational settings, and justice and inter-group relations.

All conference session will be held in the Education Building on the University of Regina campus. Included in the program is a keynote address on "Myths, Information and Judging" by the Rt. Hon. Beverley McLachlin, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. The International Society for Justice Research is headquartered in Potsdam, Germany. Its objectives are to provide biennial scientific meetings and to further other opportunities for the exchange of scientific information; to foster productive discussions of new ideas, research and theories; and to encourage international and interdisciplinary co-operation.

Research and knowledge on social justice is growing rapidly in various fields of the social and behavioural sciences. The international conference is a forum for those various disciplines to meet and exchange ideas and research findings. The disciplines represented include psychology, philosophy, political science, anthropology, economics, law and education. Since 1986, international conferences have been held in Holland, Germany, the United States, Israel and Sweden. The 2004 conference is the first held in Canada.

Concurrent sessions begin the afternoon of June 30, and continue through to the morning of July 3. Registration for the conference is $350 for the entire program ($45 for students) or $100 per day.
