Luther College and the University of Regina Music Department are presenting "The Unknown Schubert - The Romantic Voice
in Music" in a symposium, a concert and in the Canadian premiere of a Schubert opera fragment this weekend, Dec. 4 and
5.
The International Scholarly Symposium on Schubert and his music will be held both Saturday and Sunday at Luther College.
Admission is free.
The chamber music concert "Schubertiade" is Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Luther College Chapel. It features
Schubert's music performed by vocalists Lynn Channing and Peter Groom, pianists Janina Kuzmas and David McIntyre and
narrator Bruce Plouffe.
The Canadian premiere of Schubert's opera fragment "Claudine von Villa Bella" is Sunday at 3 p.m. in the
University Theatre, Riddell Centre. Lynn Channing will direct the student and faculty members of the U of R Department of
Music. Victor Sawa, maestro of the Regina Symphony Orchestra, will conduct the U of R Chamber Singers and the U of R
Chamber Orchestra. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and are available at the door.
There is a free pre-opera lecture on Sunday at 2:15 by professor Lorraine Byrne of Dublin, Ireland in Room 175 of the
Riddell Centre.
