Health professionals attend leadership institute
The second annual Saskatchewan Institute of Health Leadership (SIHL) will be held May 16-20, 2005 at the Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina. The four-day retreat brings health professionals from all levels and disciplines together to create a leadership community that promotes, supports, and sustains good health. SIHL gives participants the opportunity to meet and build relationships with health professionals from around the province. Program content is based on the six core competency areas of healthcare leadership: leadership and vision, systems thinking, community and culture, conflict and collaboration, and public policy.

Dr. Dennis Kendel, registrar of the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons, will deliver the keynote speech at the opening reception on Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Hotel Saskatchewan. The reception is open to the media.

SIHL continues for seven months after the retreat, during which time participants will work on individual and team projects and participate in teleconferences on contemporary healthcare issues. Team projects will explore leadership issues within an interdisciplinary context. A two-day follow-up retreat will take place in November 2005.

The SIHL is an initiative of the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Regina, in partnership with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacists, the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association, and the Saskatchewan Society of Physician Executives.

SIHL 2005 is fully subscribed and promises to be equally beneficial to participants and to Saskatchewan's healthcare system.
