Agreement signed to guide the future of First Nations University of Canada

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv), the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, the University of Regina and the Saskatchewan government, to support the continued operations of the First Nations University of Canada.

"I'm pleased that all of the parties to this agreement have formally demonstrated their commitment to the students, faculty and staff of FNUniv. The Working Group members have put the interests of Aboriginal education and the future students first," said the chair of the Working Group, Dr. Gary Boire, Vice-President (Academic) at the University of Regina.

The MOU provides for a new operating relationship between FNUniv, the U of R and the Government of Saskatchewan.

Because FNUniv is a federated college, the U of R has always provided academic oversight. This MOU expands the relationship so that the U of R will also provide oversight and management for the administrative and financial affairs of FNUniv.

FNUniv was established in 1976 as the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College. Through a federated partnership with the U of R, FNUniv delivers post-secondary education in a culturally supportive First Nations' environment. Programs and services are provided on three campuses - in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert - as well as in various communities across Saskatchewan and Canada.
