The University of Regina’s Paul J. Hill School of Business is host of the 2014 JDC West business competition, the largest competition of its kind in Western Canada. The three-day event takes place January 17-19 and features academic, athletic, debate and social competitions, and also includes a charity and community involvement component.

JDC West seeks to assemble the best business students that Western Canadian universities have to offer. Nearly 650 students from 12 of Western Canada’s top universities unite annually to compete with each other in all facets of business, while developing networking, critical thinking and leadership skills.

This year's theme, Beyond Profits, focuses the case competition on three areas: economic sustainability, environmental impact and ethical decision making.

“The University of Regina is excited to host such a prestigious student competition. Our organizing committee has done a tremendous job to provide business students from across Western Canada with the opportunity to compete, make meaningful professional connections and learn from one another,” said University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons.

“Events like JDC West are important for our students’ success. They provide educational opportunities, build the spirit of friendly competition, and help students create a network of colleagues while learning the value of volunteerism and community involvement,” she added.

“I want to welcome these students from across Western Canada to this exciting event at the University of Regina,” said Saskatchewan Minister of Advanced Education Rob Norris. “This is a great opportunity for them to experience diverse challenges, apply their knowledge, and learn about business and community involvement in a spirited competition.”

In June 2012, the University of Regina Bidding Committee proposed to host JDC West 2014, and was awarded the bid in August 2012. Since then, a team of 32 Paul J. Hill School of Business students and alumni have worked tirelessly to organize the competition.
