University of Regina receives $250,000 gift for College Avenue Campus Renewal Project

News Release Release Date: February 25, 2014 11:00 a.m.

The University of Regina has received a $250,000 contribution from Muriel Glenn, in memory of her husband, Dr. Gale Glenn, in support of Building Knowledge – The College Avenue Campus Renewal Project.

Muriel Glenn took classes at the College Avenue Campus and graduated from what is now the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1969. Her late husband also had ties to the College Avenue Campus, as he studied piano at the Conservatory. He was a Moose Jaw chiropractor, served as president of the Moose Jaw Music Festival Association, and was an avid supporter of young Moose Jaw talent. His profession was medicine and his passion was music.

“He always loved music. That was his outlet. He could get up at midnight and play the piano in the dark,” remembers Glenn.

About ten years ago she took some classes at the Lifelong Learning Centre on the College Avenue Campus. “I had fun and I enjoyed it,” she says.

“On behalf of the University of Regina, I would like to thank Ms. Glenn for this incredibly generous and heartfelt contribution – a gift that sets a strong example by continuing a century-long tradition of community support for the College Avenue Campus,” says University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vianne Timmons. “Our historic campus was created more than 100 years ago by the citizens of our province, and in the coming years, community support and leadership such as that shown by Ms. Glenn will be just as crucial to its revitalization for future generations of students.”

The revitalization of the College Avenue Campus will transform it into a vibrant, accessible centre of learning, strengthening the University of Regina’s connection to the community and further contributing to the education of the next century of learners and leaders. The campus will be known as the University of Regina Leadership and Outreach Centre (LOC). The College Avenue Campus is home to the Centre for Continuing Education, Conservatory of Performing Arts, Darke Hall, Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy and the Lifelong Learning Centre.
