The University of Regina has more than 150 two-way agreements with universities around the world – as well as access to another 450 universities through government programs, study abroad networks and international organizations.

Students not only study in other countries, but become more aware of the world by living, working, and travelling to other places. An event was held at the University of Regina to celebrate the ongoing success of the Study Abroad Program.

“By studying and experiencing life in other countries, University of Regina students are better able to understand the complexities of today’s changing world, and better prepare themselves to be leaders of tomorrow,” says Dr. Vianne Timmons, University of Regina president and vice-chancellor.

Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris was on hand for the event, and says “the Study Abroad Program helps create more opportunities for our students internationally and in turn, will strengthen our province’s global business expertise.”

Students are eligible to participate in the program if they have a minimum of 30 credit hours and a 70 per cent average. As well as the regular University of Regina tuition fees, students are responsible for travel, accommodation and food costs. However, participants receive a $1,000 scholarship to cover part of these costs.

One University of Regina student who took part in the Study Abroad Program is Annora Bourgeault, a psychology major who attended the University of Sunderland in England. “Because of this experience, I have an international perspective in judging and assessing a situation, and I’m more involved with people at home.”
