The University of Regina achieved top ranking among comprehensive universities in international research collaboration in results recently released by Research InfoSource.

“Our rich connection to scholars abroad is helping enhance our research by facilitating a robust exchange of knowledge,” said Dr. David Malloy, Vice-President (Research). “The result is a research community at the University of Regina that punches above its weight in terms of producing impactful and innovative research.”

The analysis was part of a special Spotlight on International Research Collaboration conducted by Research InfoSource. The rankings are based on the proportion of publications at each institution co-authored with researchers outside of Canada. For the period 2008-12, more than 51 per cent of all publications by University of Regina researchers were co-authored by researchers abroad.

“I am proud of our research community,” said Dr. Malloy. “These results demonstrate that our faculty members are globally connected and producing quality research that is getting noticed abroad. Our researchers are building Saskatchewan’s international reputation as an innovation leader.”

An example of the University’s impact in research are two of its professors, Dr. Peter Leavitt and Dr. Shanthi Johnson, who were selected as visiting scholars by Fulbright Canada for the 2014-15 year. The University of Regina is the only Canadian institution to have had two Fulbright Scholars selected this year, receiving two of only eleven placements in the prestigious scholarly exchange program to the United States.
