Business students from the University of Regina were successful at an international competition, with the marketing team finishing in first place.

Each fall, students from the Paul J. Hill School of Business enter the Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC). ICBC is an international case competition that receives more than 170 team submissions from more than 40 Canadian and International Business Schools each year. Students compete in Accounting, Business Policy, Ethics, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Management of Information systems.

The preliminary round of the competition has students complete a business case analysis. Students have a month to complete their analysis and submit their written recommendation. The cases are then reviewed and the top five or six finalists in each category are invited to the final round at Queen’s School of Business in Kingston, Ontario. The Hill School was one of 14 schools to have teams advance to the second and final round. The final round takes place over two days, during which students have 5.5 hours to analyze and prepare a business case to present to a panel of judges.

The Hill School sent three academic teams to the final round of Canada’s premiere undergraduate business case competition. This is the fifth year of the last six that the Hill School had teams place in the top three at ICBC.

The marketing team finished first and the debate team finished third overall.

“The competition is intense, and the adjudication is ruthless. Time and time again, the Hill students leave with the judges’ jaws dropped and humble expressions of a job well done,” said Dr. Andrew Gaudes, Dean of Business Administration at the University of Regina.
