The Faculty of Business Administration’s  “Insight Distinguished Speaker Series” features Regina lawyer Harold MacKay, who will present “Shaping Canada's Financial System - from Saskatchewan of all Places!"

MacKay, counsel to the law firm of MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman,  was chair of the task force in the late 1990’s with a mandate to examine the future of the Canadian financial services sector. It was that task force’s recommendations that many believe strengthened Canada’s banks, particularly during the 2008 recession.

“We made an important contribution that aided the banks when the financial Tsunami hit,” says MacKay.

MacKay also has extensive corporate governance experience. In the public sector he was the lead director of the Bank of Canada and the chair of the board of the Federal Business Development Bank. He’s also a commercial arbitrator and has been an active participant in Canadian public policy issues. MacKay will also reflect in his lecture on how he became an improbable key advisor on these matters from his Saskatchewan base.

The Faculty of Business Administration’s Insight: UR Business Distinguished Speaker Series features high profile leaders from the business community who are from Saskatchewan and who have made a national or global impact in business.
