A University of Regina employee has been honoured for his actions that helped save a life on campus.

Patrick Sherling, a U of R campus security officer, has received the Regina Police Chief’s Commendation Award which annually recognizes bravery or an exceptional contribution to the service

“I happen to be in the right place at the right time with a positive outcome for all involved,” says Sherling, who has worked in the field of security for almost 30 years.

Sherling was on duty last August when he received word of a man in distress on campus. Sherling’s actions are being credited with saving the man’s life.

Although he is humbled and was not expecting an award, Sherling says he’s honoured to receive the recognition

“This is part of the service any member of the campus security unit would perform,” says Sherling. Two Regina police constables were also recognized for their roles in the incident.
