Creating innovation through partnerships

On July 1, 2015, the University of Regina will become a full partner with Mitacs.

Mitacs is an independent non-profit agency that supports university research in all disciplines through collaboration with partner organizations.

“By joining Mitacs as a full partner we are opening up new opportunities for research and collaboration with industry, non-profit organizations, federal and provincial governments and other global partners,” said Dr. Vianne Timmons, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Regina.  “The University’s new strategic plan calls on us to support our researchers to expand the boundaries of knowledge and to produce research that has an impact in our communities. Joining Mitacs will help us follow through on that commitment.”

The University had previous ties to Mitacs as an honorary member, which allowed for participation in some of Mitacs’ programs.

“Becoming a full partner with Mitacs is a win - win for the University and for students as we will be able to continue to attract highly qualified graduate students with better research projects developed in collaboration with industry, government and non-profits,” says Faculty of Science Biology Professor Dr. Mark Brigham. “Three of my students have been involved in previous research projects funded by Mitacs and the Canadian Wildlife Service and I look forward to having more students take advantage of Mitacs’ programs.”

As a full partner the number of Globalink research abroad opportunities for students from the University and for incoming students from partner countries will be increased.  Mitacs also offers free professional development workshops that are now available for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows registered at the University of Regina
