The Canadian Criminal Justice Association (CCJA) and University of Regina’s Collaborative Centre for Justice and Safety are excited to present this year’s biennial Canadian Criminal Justice Association Congress on Criminal Justice.

“The Congress brings together all elements of the criminal justice community, including the public, to promote informed debate on the Canadian criminal justice system,” says Hirsch Greenberg, practicum coordinator with the U of R’s Justice Studies, and President-Elect of the Canadian Criminal Justice Association.

In addition to many other current issues, plenary sessions and workshops, this year’s Congress will examine:

  • The impact of post-traumatic stress and trauma on first responders
  • Internet and child exploitation
  • At-risk youth
  • Aboriginal justice
  • Increasing police effectiveness
  • Crime reduction strategies
  • Women and the justice system
  • Community health and change
  • Emerging crimes and crime trends

The Congress banquet will also feature a key note address by Patrick White, an award-winning reporter with the Globe and Mail whose current work focuses on criminal justice issues. In 2009, White served as an embedded journalist with the Canadian Armed Forces in Kandahar, Afghanistan. In 2015, he received his second National Newspaper Award for “Who Killed Eddie Snowshoe?”, his feature on Canada's overuse of solitary confinement.

“By supporting this conference the University is encouraging a critical dialogue that will help inform local, provincial and national criminal justice policies,” says Greenberg.  “This is well aligned with the University’s strategic plan commitment to our communities priority and the work of the Collaborative Centre for Justice and Safety.”

The Congress is being held at the Delta Regina from September 30 to October 2, 2015. To view a detailed program, register to attend or for more information visit the CCJA web site at: http://www.ccja-acjp.ca/pub/en/congress-2015/
