U of R basketball great inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame.

A former University of Regina basketball star, Tyler Wright, was officially inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony at Evraz Place on Oct. 8, 2015, along with five other sports leaders in the community.
Tyler starred for the Cougars. He was a conference all-star twice, was named most valuable player on the team three times. He is the team’s recordholder for most points in a game (49) and most points in a season (459). He received the President’s Award in 2002. He also excelled in golf, and was an eight-time provincial team member.
“My time spent at the University of Regina was invaluable. Coaches James Hillis and Steve Burrows were essential to my growth as a basketball player. Their confidence in me allowed me to flourish over my five-year career. My teammates were absolutely fantastic and were vital to my success,” Tyler says. “This induction proves to me that the hard work, perseverance, and time committed to my sporting dreams were not in vain. This truly brings meaning to the many sacrifices that I, along with my wife and family, had to make so I could compete in sport,”
“I also had an excellent experience in the pedagogical environments of the University of Regina. Many professors regularly attended the games and often struck up conversations and sent congratulations my way during the course of my career. As a result of my love of learning and of the University of Regina, I have completed two undergraduate degrees - Bachelor of Education (2002) and Bachelor of Arts Honours in Religious Studies (2009). I will complete my Masters in Education - Thesis route in the spring of 2016.”
And for Tyler, the induction is something of a family affair: his father, Larry, has also been named to the Hall. Larry played hockey for the Regina Pats, and later played in the NHL, with Philadelphia, California and Detroit.
Other members of the University of Regina community who are members of the Regina Sports Hall of Fame include Jason Clermont, Dick White Brandy West (McMaster), Cymone Bouchard, Rob Pyne, Chris Biegler, the Cougar’s 2000-01 Women’s Basketball Team, the Cougar’s 1996-97 Men’s Wrestling Team, and Dick Stark.
