Witness Blanket - Historic Monument to Residential School Survivors

The Witness Blanket is a large scale, wood based, art installation incorporating over 800 items connected to residential school experiences in Saskatchewan and across Canada. Each item tells a story reflecting the painful legacy of the residential school system. By bearing witness to this tragic past, the artist is hopeful that we will all gain strength by ensuring we honour those that went before us.

Available to speak:

Dr. Shauneen Pete, Associate Professor and Executive Lead on Indigenization at the University of Regina. Her mother and grandparents are residential school survivors.

Dr. Blair Stonechild, professor of Indigenous Studies at First Nations University of Canada and a residential school survivor.

The Witness blanket is the work of BC First Nations artist and Master Carver Carey Newman, whose father was residential school survivor.
