University of Regina receives almost $1.5 million in research funding

Sixteen University of Regina researchers received $1,468,500.00 for work that is set to shape the future of our environment, climate, health, and society.

The variety of research projects successful in the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) 2016 competition range from looking at the impacts of chemicals in our waters, to advancing nuclear imaging technologies and improving driving safety in the winter.

“We are excited by the research that this significant funding will allow us to pursue,” says Dr. David Malloy, University of Regina Vice-President (Research). “The support from NSERC will help to move our innovative ideas and technologies forward, fostering discoveries that will have an impact on the world around us.”

The NSERC discovery research programs include funds for scholarships, fellowships, research supplements and equipment grants, and to support researchers and students who are furthering our understanding of how the world works. This year NSERC’s discovery funding program handed out more than 4,000 awards across the country worth a total of $465 million.

University Discovery Grant recipients are Eman Almehdawe, Chunjiang An, Kathryn Bethune, Bruce Gilligan, Garth Huber, Babak Mehran, Malek Mouhoub, Aram Teymurazyan, and Christopher Yost.

As well, Christine Chan, Remus Floricel, Amr Henni, Robert Murphy, Samira Sadaoui, Daoyong Yang and Fanhua Zeng all received Discovery Development Grants.
