President Timmons recognized with leadership award

University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons has been selected as the recipient of the 2016 Leadership Award by District VIII of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The Leadership Award, which was presented recently in Calgary as part of the Case District VIII conference, recognizes someone who has:

- created a vision for an educational institution and inspired others to follow that vision;

- established a positive image for the institution, and/or successfully led an institution through turbulent times;

- increased an institution's stature in its community and its education service to the community; and

- been innovative and encouraged an institution's personnel to be innovative and take risks.

"On behalf of the University of Regina Board of Governors, I would like to congratulate President Timmons on receiving the CASE District VIII Leadership Award," said University of Regina Board Chair Daniel Kwochka.  "This award recognizes the work of an educational leader in western Canada and the northwestern United States to promote the understanding and support of education.  It is something of which our University - and indeed our entire province - should be very proud."

In accepting the award, President Timmons noted that the recognition is a testament to the dedication of the University's faculty and staff.

 "Over the past four decades, our faculty and staff have played a major role in developing, promoting and realizing a vision of what a University of Regina education should be," she said. "Through good times and challenging ones, their belief in the University and its students has been a constant, and it will continue to be an inspiration to me in my role as President."
