A glimpse into the world of journalism at CBC

Have you ever wondered who decides what makes news?

You can find out how decisions are made in radio and TV newsrooms, when four journalists with the CBC speak at the University of Regina on March 1, 2016.

You will learn what happens behind the scenes when a story breaks, and how journalists filter through excess information in order to tell compelling stories

The event is hosted by CBC Saskatchewan’s meteorologist Christy Climenhaga, and speakers include Chris Brown of CBC’s The National, Jill Morgan of CBC Saskatchewan News at 6 and Sheila Coles of CBC Radio’s The Morning Edition.
 
“A university should be more than a place for academics - it should be a venue for public discourse. The U of R plays this role well with public lectures on a variety of subjects. As an ex-U of R student and teacher (at the journalism school) it's great to see my worlds come together,” says Coles.

“People have a fundamental right to know why any given story hits the airwaves. This especially applies to the public broadcaster. And it especially applies now, at a time where people are bombarded with information in all sorts of formats. My hope is that this will help people become even smarter consumer of news,” she adds.

You will also have an opportunity to interact with these CBC journalists.
