An international conference on sports nutrition and training will be held at the University of Regina in September. The conference is being put on by the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), and it’s the first time the conference will be held in Canada.

“The ISSN wants to become more global and the University of Regina is one of Canada's top Universities for creatine and protein research,” explains Dr. Darren Candow, Professor and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies.

Candow says the conference is important because “speculation and questions exists around sport nutrition topics and strategies. It is important to discuss 'evidence based research' for proper recommendations, strategies and practical applications.”

Candow will be speaking at the conference about strategies to maximize muscle growth, recovery and performance.

The other speakers are:

  • Dr. Jose Antonio, CEO and co-founder of the International Society of Sports Nutrition and Associate Professor at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who will talk about lies and myths regarding whey protein shakes.
  • Dr. Scotty Butcher, Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, will speak about the importance of strength training for older athletes.
  • Dr. Stephen Cornish, Assistant Professor, University of Manitoba, will make a presentation on the impacts that omega-3 fatty acids have on health and performance.
  • Dr. Jonathan Little, Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, will discuss high-intensity interval training for health and performance.
  • Dr. Corey Peacock, Assistant Associate Professor at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will talk about the importance of nutritional interventional strategies for elite mixed martial arts.

Early bird registration closes near the end of August and seating is limited. To register, please go to http://www.sportsnutritionsociety.org/conferences.html.
