Abstract

Many internet shoppers find it challenging to choose the prefect aspect or features when buying online a new product such as a desktop computer, camera, laptop, T.V, and so on. Indeed, most online companies do not offer customers the ability to express their choices and preferences when they are interested in buying a new product. In other words, many shopping websites constrain the customers to choose among their alternatives and not necessarily the options that meet their needs and satisfaction. This can be frustrating for buyers as it gives them the impression that their requirements and preferences are not taken into account. In order to address the above issues, we propose an interactive application or system based on constraint programming and preference reasoning. This application or system takes into account the customer requirements and preferences modelled respectively as a set of hard and soft constraints; and returns a list of options corresponding to the best solutions satisfying the hard constraints and maximizing the soft ones.
