Abstract

Tom Cruise has jumped on Oprah’s couch, but he won’t be jumping on a psychiatrist’s couch anytime soon. Cruise is the latest public advocate of anti-psychiatry, a movement that claims mental illness doesn’t necessarily exist. In this week’s Coffee House Controversies talk, “A Brief History of Anti-psychiatry”, psychology professor Angelina Baydala will outline the controversial position of anti-psychiatry and consider the possibilities of “madness” in our society. The talk will take place beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 16 at Chapters Bookstore behind the Southland Mall (2625 Gordon Road).
