Abstract

At any one time, approximately 70 per cent of people will have experienced at least one major traumatic event in their lives. Studies have shown that the effect of trauma extends past the initial event. Trauma -- especially childhood trauma -- can negatively impact a person’s overall health, either by affecting the persons developing immune system (if they are young) or causing the person to engage in adverse behaviours that are detrimental to their health.
