President receives YWCA Lifetime Achievement Award

At the awards ceremony on May 2, University President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vianne Timmons, received the YWCA Regina's Women of Distinction 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award.

"Dr. Timmons fearlessly uses every opportunity she can to bring voice to all women," said Melissa Coomber-Bendtsen, CEO of YWCA Regina. "Her commitment to changing the course for future generations of women while lifting women up as she succeeds are testaments to her strengths as a feminist and leader."

Dr. Timmons is a widely recognized scholar who focuses on family literacy and inclusive education. She is active in the academic community regionally, nationally and internationally, currently serving as Past-President of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Co-Chair of SSHRC's Advisory Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, a member of the Business/Higher Education Roundtable, and a member of the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

Dr. Timmons has championed efforts towards Indigenization and reconciliation, as well the internationalization of the University, while working to create an inclusive campus. She is known for passionately championing women in leadership roles, challenging others to mentor and support the next generation of female leaders.

Since 1981, YWCA Regina's Women of Distinction Awards program has recognized women whose outstanding achievements contribute to the health and future of our community and are an inspiration to others. A Woman of Distinction has made a commitment to and a significant difference in her community or the larger world, and her achievements demonstrate vision, creativity and initiative.
