University of Regina hosts Sport for Life events March 29

The Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies and the Aboriginal Student Centre of the University of Regina are pleased to invite Aboriginal students from grades 7-12 to the eighth annual Sport for Life event.

 

Students will participate in a number of physical activity sessions lead by U of R athletes and students including, ball hockey, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, lacrosse and volleyball to name a few. Tours of campus will also be available.

 

When:        Students will be arriving on campus between 8:30 -10:00 a.m.

and will be leaving between 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.

Where:       Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport

         Main Campus, 3737 Wascana Parkway

 

Over the noon hour there will also be a recognition event for Fred Saskamoose. Playing with the Chigao Blackhawks in the 1953-54 season Sasakamoose became the first treaty Indian to play in the National Hockey League (NHL). After retiring from hockey he promoted youth in sports and served as chief and councillor of the Sandy Lake Indian Band. He was inducted to the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012. Sasakamoose became a member of the Order of Canada in 2017.
