CFL Commissioner to speak at President's Breakfast for Athletics

The Commissioner of the Canadian Football League (CFL), Mark Cohon, will be this year's special guest at the 2nd Annual President's Breakfast for Athletics, to be held September 13. Director of Athletics at the University of Regina Dick White is delighted Cohon accepted the invitation to speak.

"Regina is such a football mad city, you couldn't find a better speaker for the president's breakfast," said White. So many Canadian university players are going to the CFL these days, so the connection is obvious. Mark Cohon will be an excellent speaker."

For his part, Cohon says he welcomes the opportunity to speak in Regina.

"People love their football in Saskatchewan," said Cohon. "When I became commissioner, I said one of the first places I have to go is Saskatchewan, and it is one of the first places I came. It's always good to be back in Saskatchewan."

The format for the breakfast will see well known Regina sportswriter Darrell Davis posing a series of questions to Cohon. One of the subjects sure to be discussed is the upcoming 99th Grey Cup weekend in Vancouver.

"The 2011 edition is going to be especially exciting," said Cohon. "We've got the Vanier Cup on Friday and the Grey Cup on Sunday. It's an excellent opportunity to get a good look at all of the talented young players who are competing at the university level."

Cohon points out that an ever increasing number of players coming into the CFL are Canadian.

"That speaks to the importance of the CIS system. There is some excellent talent in Canadian universities right now, and we want those players in the CFL."

The speaker at last year's inaugural president's breakfast was Olympic gold medal winning skeleton racer Jon Montgomery.
