The University of Regina’s annual spring convocation presents 14 awards and scholarships during its three days - June 6-8.

Among the many high achieving graduates this year is Adam Dubé. He’s the recipient of the Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal.

Dubé ‘s thesis research focused on measuring children’s mathematical understanding and investigating how mathematical knowledge develops and can improve future educational efforts in a world that is focused on technology where mathematics is a fundamental skill set.

Dubé chose to do his PhD at the University of Regina because of the students and professors in the Psychology Department at both the U of R and Campion College.

“The people here support and challenge each other and create a wonderful academic climate,” said Dubé. “The number of success stories coming out of the U of R psychology graduate program is a testament to its quality.”

Dubé’s passion for conducting research and teaching were his top reasons for obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology (Experimental and Applied).

“Research is simply organized curiosity and it allows me to answer questions that I find truly fascinating. Teaching enables me to share my passion for psychology with others and to show people how influential psychology is becoming.”

Dubé has presented his research at more than 18 conferences around the world and has published six articles, most notably in the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology. His most fond experience was after a conference in Belgium. He took the train and traveled to the opposite end of the country and came back the same day. For him, traversing the entire country in a matter of hours was novel.

His academic accomplishments came with the help of his supervisor and his committee members. He hopes one day that he can help future students as much as others helped him along the way.
