For the first time, Campion College and the Faculty of Education are co-sponsoring the Publishing in Education Award, and the First Nations University of Canada is sponsoring the Aboriginal People’s Publishing Award.

The University of Regina is continuing to sponsor two other awards. The President’s Office sponsors the main prize, Book of the Year, and Luther College and the Faculty of Arts co-sponsor the Scholarly Writing Award.

"Given our commitment to publishing through the University of Regina Press, and the role we play in promoting education, research and culture, it is natural for the University of Regina to sponsor the Saskatchewan Book Awards," says Vianne Timmons, president and vice-chancellor of the University. "As a university, we value, promote and encourage the written word, and these awards are a means of recognizing people who play an important role in the life of our province."

The Saskatchewan Book Awards will be presented at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina on April 27, 2013.

The University of Regina is also a supporter of the Saskatchewan Book Awards in other ways. For example, the University has hosted announcements of nominees, faculty members have sat on the Board of Directors, and many shortlisted authors and winners have studied or taught at the University of Regina.

This latest increase in sponsorship shows that the University of Regina values the work of Saskatchewan’s writers and publishers, and values the integrity of the awards process.
