New student affairs vice-president named
Ron Byrne has been named associate vice-president (student affairs) at the University of Regina.

Byrne is currently supervisor of student services at Sharjah Men's College - Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates – a position he has held for the past three years – and was previously director of Student Affairs at St. Thomas University in Fredericton. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from Memorial University and a bachelor of laws from the University of New Brunswick (UNB), where he lectured in administration. He has also lectured in criminology at St. Thomas, and worked as a research fellow for the Atlantic Human Rights Centre there.

Since 1987 he has held a number of positions related to student affairs at Memorial University, UNB, Dalhousie University and St. Thomas, as well as at Sharjah.

Byrne assumes his new position with the U of R on August 1, 2004. For the period July 1, to July 31 Janet Denford, the U of R’s registrar, will be acting associate vice-president (student affairs).
