U of R Arts students getting good jobs
Arts works because arts students get jobs. Graduates from all Faculty of Arts programs at the University of Regina also get good jobs. Those are the messages contained in a new booklet, Arts Works, produced by the Faculty of Arts.

"There is a perception that students graduating from professional programs have better chances of employment," says Dean of Arts Robin Fisher. "The research in Arts Works demonstrates that this is a false perception. Statistically," Fisher adds, "grads from all arts programs are earning as much by mid-career as grads with a business degree, for example."

Arts Works was researched and prepared by staff in the dean of arts office. The booklet includes:
· a list of arts graduates and the jobs they now hold;
· stories profiling alumni and the benefits they received from their degrees, ranging from recent grads to Canada's Minister of Finance, Ralph Goodale;
· testimonials from alumni and employers about the benefits of an arts degree;
· statistics on rates of employment and rates of income of arts students, compared with others;
· information on the kinds of jobs students can get with a degree in each of the faculty's major disciplines;
· information on employment opportunities available to arts students while taking their degree program.

"I believe many students, their parents and employers recognize the intangible value of an arts degree," says Fisher. "Arts Works showcases the tangible benefits. I also think the booklet shows that many arts grads are working in jobs where you wouldn't expect to find them," Fisher concludes.

Arts Works was launched at a reception held at the University Club at the University of Regina, September 15. It is being distributed to prospective students and their parents, school guidance counselors and anyone interested in a copy.
