U of R connects with high school students and public
More than 500 high school students, parents, teachers and counselors from across the province will visit the University of Regina for a new event called UR Connected! This campus visit highlights the University and gives the public an opportunity to learn more about U of R programs and services.

"Campus visits play an important role in helping students and their families decide on which university to attend," says Joy Turner, manager, Marketing and Student Recruitment. "We are very excited about this new option for prospective students to meet faculty, staff, alumni and current University students and hear first-hand about the many excellent opportunities at the U of R."

UR Connected! kicks off with an open house on Wed., Oct 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport. This come-and-go information evening is open to the public and offers the opportunity to tour campus, learn about programs and talk with faculty and staff.

On Thurs. Oct. 20, Grade 12 students and their parents will enjoy fun and informative presentations, such as the keynote presentation from four U of R alumni who work on the popular TV show Corner Gas. Student sessions also include information on work experience opportunities at the U of R, student life, and strategies to help students manage the cost of university. Teachers and counselors will have the opportunity to network with colleagues and University representatives. University of Regina Ambassadors (student volunteers) will provide campus tours for participants. Registration is required for the Oct. 20 event.

Taren O'How is a fourth-year political science student and a U of R Ambassador. "It was only four and a half years ago that I graduated high school. I remember the anxiety about going to University and having so many questions. Attending UR Connected! is a great opportunity for high school students to ask those questions and relieve that anxiety by experiencing the University themselves," she says.
