Convocation will celebrate 1,694 degrees, diplomas and certificates
The University of Regina will present 1,694 students with degrees, diplomas and certificates at its annual spring convocation June 5-7 at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina. The ceremonies begin at 2 p.m. each day.

On Monday, June 5, Lieutenant-Governor Lynda Haverstock will be presented with an honorary doctor of laws degree. Degrees, diplomas and certificates will be conferred on students from the faculties of Graduate Studies and Research, Business Administration, Engineering, and Kinesiology and Health Studies. The Alumni Award for Excellence in Research will be presented, as will the Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal, the President’s Medal and the University Medal.

On Tuesday, June 6, Saskatchewan’s Chief Justice Edward Bayda will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree. Degrees, diplomas and certificates will be conferred on students from the faculties of Arts, Fine Arts and Science. The University of Regina Board of Governors Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Jack Boan, professor emeritus of economics. As well, the Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, and the Governor General’s Academic Silver Medal will be presented.

On Wednesday, June 7, the University will confer its first honorary doctor of fine arts degree on Regina Symphony Orchestra’s Maestro Victor Sawa. Degrees, diplomas and certificates will be conferred on students from the faculties of Education and Social Work and from the Centre for Continuing Education. The Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Public Service will be presented.

In all, degrees, diplomas and certificates will be awarded to 630 males and 1,064 females, from Canada and 15 other countries including: Eritrea (2), Ghana (1), Hong Kong (2), India (2), Japan (7), Kenya (1), Libya (1), Mexico (1), People’s Republic of China (68), Portugal (1), South Korea (4), Sudan (1), Taiwan (1), Thailand (6), and the United States (2).
