Auditions for youth opera production
Voice students age seven and older are invited to audition for Operatunities, the University of Regina
Conservatory’s youth opera performance company. Auditions for the company’s second production, Queen for a
Day, will take place Thurs., Dec. 7 and Sat., Dec. 9. Audition requirements include singing O Canada, one
verse of a short piece of the singer’s choice (no pop music) and some pitch matching. Rehearsals will be on
Wednesdays starting at 7 p.m. and the performance date is May 25, 2007. Contact Michelle Nye at the Conservatory of

Queen for a Day takes place in the ancient Balkan city of Volcania. Newly ascended and completely crazy King
Vlassic has announced that he will take a new bride every day and have her executed the following morning. The Grand
Vizier’s daughter, Scheherazade, develops a courageous plan to use her unparalleled talents as a storyteller to save
the women of Volcania, and perhaps to change the very nature of her problematic society. Operatunities’
artistic director for this year is Edward Willett.
