David Suzuki to be honoured with Distinguished Canadian Award
Dr. David Suzuki, scientist, environmentalist and broadcaster, is the recipient of the 24th Annual Distinguished Canadian Award. The award, presented by the Seniors' University Group and the Seniors Education Centre of the University of Regina, will be given to Suzuki on May 6.

"Dr. Suzuki is an outstanding broadcaster, writer, and public speaker who has made it possible for ordinary people to understand how their actions are destroying mother earth," says Kerrie Strathy, Division Head of the Seniors Education Centre. "He is a very passionate environmentalist who has encouraged a lot of Canadians and other people around the world to realize that there are simple actions they can take every day to help save our planet for future generations."

The ceremony, which takes place at the Delta Hotel, will begin with a reception starting at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The program portion of the evening will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The 24th Annual Distinguished Canadian Award Dinner is sponsored in part by the Leader-Post, Global, The Cooperators, Conexus Credit Union and Great West Life/Canada Life/London Life.

The Distinguished Canadian Award was established by the Seniors' University Group in 1985 to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Canadian life. The award is intended to raise public awareness of the dynamic role older adults play in society.
