National Aboriginal Day celebrations at University of Regina to take place on Friday, June 20

On Friday, June 20, the University of Regina's Aboriginal Student Centre will be hosting National Aboriginal Day festivities on the U of R Dr. Lloyd Barber academic green.  Members of the public as well as members of the University community are invited to participate in the events, which take place between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

For many generations, Aboriginal groups have celebrated their culture and heritage on the summer solstice.  For that reason, in co-operation with national Aboriginal organizations, the Government of Canada each year designates June 21 as National Aboriginal Day.  Because National Aboriginal Day falls on a weekend this year, the Aboriginal Student Centre has chosen to celebrate Aboriginal culture and heritage a day early in order to involve as many people from the University community as possible.

For further information about the U of R's National Aboriginal Day celebrations, please contact the program co-ordinator, Jacqueline Thompson, at 535-8213.
