Francophones and Métis of Southern Saskatchewan to meet in Willow Bunch Friday

English version will follow.

Francophones and Métis of Southern Saskatchewan to meet in Willow Bunch Friday

This weekend, from September 19 to 21, two founding peoples of Saskatchewan will meet in Willow Bunch for the second edition of the Travelling Roundtable of the Francophones and Métis of Western Canada.

Organized by the Institut français and its partners - the Assemblée communautaire fransaskoise and Willow Bunch Métis Local #17 - this breakthrough community gathering of bilingual exchange, learning and celebration promises to re-establish a constructive dialogue between two groups that have grown apart over the last century. The organizers expect over 200 Francophone and Métis participants from across southern Saskatchewan.

The Willow Bunch Travelling Roundtable program will feature two community roundtable discussions, integrated artistic performances and cultural workshops, as well as community and academic presentations. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided to allow participants to express themselves in English or French. Participants will also be encouraged to employ any of the various Métis languages.

The Travelling Roundtable is the only initiative of its kind in Canada, offering ordinary citizens a rare opportunity to engage in a genuine and sustained conversation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples.
