University to host meeting of international experts on C02 capture

Some of the world's leading scientists in carbon dioxide capture will be in Regina for a major international workshop later this month to examine new developments in CO2 capture technology and the development of carbon capture and storage projects world-wide. The agenda covers latest scientific research, use of pilot plants to validate technological approaches and plans for commercial scale demonstration units in various parts of the globe.

From September 29 to October 1 approximately 160 scientists from 22 countries will gather for the 12th Meeting of the International Post-combustion CO2 Capture Network. Carbon capture and storage is an important technology to mitigate climate change by dramatically reducing the amount of CO2 emissions from large sources such as coal-fired power plants.

The meeting is being organized by the International Energy Agency Greenhouse Gas R& D Programme, the leading organization looking at carbon capture and storage on a global basis since its foundation in 1991.

The University of Regina, known as one of the leading institutions in the world for its innovative work in carbon capture at the International Test Centre for CO2 Capture (ITC), was chosen to host this meeting, the third one to be held in Canada since 2001.
