University of Regina launches plan for the future

The University of Regina is developing a new Campus Master Plan for the future development of the campus. The first stage is a kick-off event that will be held on Tuesday, March 9, in the Multi-Purpose Room (128.2) at the Riddell Centre from 7 pm to 9 pm. This is an opportunity for anyone who learns, teaches, lives, works or plays at the University of Regina to have input into the way the campus functions and will respond to future needs in areas such as accessibility and sustainability.

"As part of the community, the University of Regina always welcomes comments from the public," says U of R President Vianne Timmons. "The reason for doing a Campus Master Plan is so the University can meet the changing needs of students, staff, faculty and the larger community in the years to come."

The new plan will provide key principles to guide campus development during the next five years and beyond. Developing a new campus plan is done every few years, and the launch of this plan will provide opportunities to make sure the physical campus can accommodate the priorities set out in the University's new Strategic Plan.

There will be free visitor parking for the kick-off event in Lot 8, just west of the Riddell Centre. City of Regina bus service will be provided on routes 3 and 4.

The process of coming up with a new plan to ensure the U of R is a spirited, inspirational, sustainable, and accessible campus to call home will take several months. The target for completion of the plan is December 2010, with implementation to begin in 2011.
