University of Regina President Dr. Vianne Timmons named to Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100

University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons has been named one of Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 for 2010 for the third consecutive year.

The award is an initiative of the Women's Executive Network (WXN) and is co-presented by Scotiabank and KPMG. Timmons is being recognized in the Public Sector Leaders category.

Chair of the University of Regina's Board of Governors, Susan Barber, QC, says "I am pleased to congratulate President Timmons on being named one of Canada's Most Powerful Women. Under her guidance, the University of Regina is making strides in teaching, research and community service - the core of its academic mission."

Timmons officially began her role as seventh president and vice-chancellor of the University of Regina on Sept. 1, 2008. One of Canada's leading researchers and authorities in family literacy and inclusive education, Timmons was also named to Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 in 2008 and 2009.

Timmons served for six years on the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), is president-elect of the International Association of the Scientific Study on Intellectual Disability (IASSID), and serves as chair of the Canadian Bureau of International Education.  She is also a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) Standing Advisory Committee on Educational Issues. Last year she was named one of the 10 most influential women in Saskatchewan. She received the Canada Post Literacy Award in 2009, and in 2010 she received the Canadian Association for Community Living's National Inclusive Education Award.
