University of Regina unveils Canada Post Centennial Commemorative Envelope

News Release Release Date: May 9, 2011 12:00 p.m.

The University of Regina and Canada Post today unveiled a Centennial Commemorative Envelope to celebrate the 100-year history of the University of Regina.

The University started to take shape in 1911, when a group of community-minded citizens established a residential high school called Regina College. Over the years, the institution evolved from a second campus of the University of Saskatchewan to an independent degree-granting university in 1974.

"Regina College laid a foundation of public education and service to community. We continue to build on that foundation today," says University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons. "The Centennial Commemorative Envelope designed and produced by Canada Post, marks this momentous occasion and celebrates 100 Years of Excellence in Education."

"We are proud to issue a commemorative envelope to honour the impact the University of Regina has had on Canadians over the century," says Jim Phillips, Director, Stamps Services at Canada Post. "This is an institution that was built on community involvement and civic pride, values that remain strong today."

Canada Post commemorative envelopes are collectables, not for use in the postal system and are issued each year to honour Canadian culture, individuals and institutions.

The University of Regina Centennial Commemorative Envelope is on sale for a period of one year at post offices, on-line at http://www.canadapost.ca/shop/collecting/collectibles/commemorative-envelopes.jsf or by mail order at 1-800-565-4362.
