University of Regina celebrates centennial with launch of new book
News Release Release Date: October 24, 2011 12:00 p.m.
At the College Avenue Campus today, University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Vianne Timmons proudly
launched a new book entitled Honouring our Past, Embracing our Future: A Century of Excellence in Education at the
University of Regina Campus.
The book, produced by the Canadian Plains Research Center (CPRC), chronicles in text and pictures how the University
grew from a small Methodist high school with 27 students 100 years ago to world-class University with nearly 13,000
students, 10 faculties, 25 departments, three federated colleges, and close to 20 research centres and
institutions.
"This book is a celebration of the past 100 years on our campus - a century of excellence in education of which
all of us should be proud," said Timmons. "In that way, it is a tribute to those who helped our University
develop into the institution it is today. At the same time, however, it looks to a bright future - our next century,
during which our students, faculty members and staff will continue to fulfill and build on the vision of those who
founded Regina College 100 years ago."
Contributors to the book include University of Regina History Professor Dr. James Pitsula, President Timmons Senior
Researcher Dr. Stephen King, and University of Regina photographer Don Hall.
The book is available at the University of Regina Bookstore as well as through the Canadian Plains Research
Center.
