News Release Release Date: December 5, 2011 1:00 p.m.

Students at the Paul J. Hill School of Business have racked up some impressive results in the first round of the annual Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC), which is run by Queen's University.  A total of nine students will be going to the finals next month in four of the eight categories. The University of Regina is one of only six universities that made it to the finals in four or more categories. Considering that there were 38 universities from Canada and abroad competing in the first round, this result puts the U of R in an elite group. The University of Regina will be represented at the finals in Business Policy, Debate, Human Resources and Marketing.

The ICBC is Canada's premiere undergraduate business case competition. It began in 1978. Students can compete in Accounting, Business Policy, Ethics, Debate, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Management of Information systems. Last year, the University of Regina placed first in the Ethics category, and third in Marketing.

"Getting to finals of this competition is no small feat," said Morina Rennie, Acting Dean of Business Administration at the University of Regina. "This result is a testament to the instruction the students are receiving and the time and effort the students themselves have invested. The faculty also appreciates the support of the business community for these competitions that showcase our ability and performance. Certified Management Accountants of Saskatchewan has been the major sponsor of the team's participation this year."

Representing the University of Regina in the finals on January 5 - 7 in Kingston, Ontario will be Jeremy Barber, Shayne Barrie, Taylor Carson, Dayle Diekrager, Kyle Derrik, Shannon Johnson, Greg Moore, Andrew Polasek, and Laura Poure. The team is headed by Dr. Hilary Horan as faculty coach.
