University of Regina Engineering programs nationally accredited by Engineers Canada
News Release Release Date: July 25, 2013 8:55 a.m.
The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Regina has received continued national accreditation by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).
The Electronics Systems, Environmental Systems, Industrial Systems, and Petroleum Systems Engineering programs were each accredited for six years, the longest accreditation period possible in Canada. The newest program, Software Systems Engineering, was accredited for three years, with the possibility of extension for an additional three years.
Graduating from an accredited program allows students to register with the provincial engineering professional associations for licensing as professional engineers without having to write numerous admission exams. The accreditation process involves extensive documentation and evaluation by visiting experts from other universities and from industry.
“Getting accredited for six years is an outstanding achievement,” explains Dr. Paitoon Tontiwachwuthikul, outgoing Dean of Engineering and Applied Science. “This speaks to the incredible dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff, and students. It demonstrates that our programs are nationally recognized as premier engineering programs in Canada.”
The incoming Dean, Dr. Esam Hussein, commended the Faculty on this impressive achievement and noted that “it demonstrates acceptance and recognition of the multidisciplinary and progressive nature of this Faculty’s engineering programs.”
Engineers Canada, the national engineering professional association and licensing body, is responsible for overseeing the accreditation of engineering schools and programs across Canada through the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), which develops stringent guidelines that engineering programs must meet to be accredited.
