The University of Regina started to take shape in 1911, when a group of community-minded citizens established a high school called Regina College, located on College Avenue. In the decades since, the University has become a bustling institution that remains dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and community service.

Regina College grew considerably in the years that followed, particularly post-war, as the student body and program offerings expanded. In the fall of 1961, the University of Saskatchewan announced the introduction of a second-year arts and science program. The same year the name “Regina College” stopped being used as the growing institution became the “University of Saskatchewan – Regina Campus.”

In the fall of 1964, the University of Saskatchewan announced the introduction of a third-year program in arts and science and the following year the new campus opened on Wascana Parkway.

On July 1, 1974, the University of Regina became an autonomous, degree-granting institution with its own Chancellor, Board of Governors, Senate, Convocation, and Council, and adopted the motto “As One Who Serves.”

In the 40 years since its independence, the University of Regina has grown to become a diverse, comprehensive University, dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and public service. Today, it is home to 10 faculties and 25 academic departments, and is widely recognized for innovative programs, a welcoming campus environment and a strong commitment to faculty and student research.
