The new residence being constructed is well on its way to being ready for occupancy for the fall 2015 semester.

The University made the project a high priority in response to the growing student demand for more on-campus residential space. In addition to meeting student needs, the project incorporates a strong economic and environmental sustainability component, all of which align with the priorities identified in the University’s 2015-2020 Strategic Plan.

“The new residence will provide a fabulous, energy efficient, quiet and safe space for students,” says Nelson Wagner, Associate Vice-President (Facilities Management). “The design of the mechanical systems includes radiant in-floor heating that also eliminates most ventilation noise, and the views from the rooms are going to be incredible.

“I’m also very proud of the quality of the materials and finish,” says Wagner. “The Tyndall stone exterior is extremely durable and will outlast other sheathing materials by several decades and will save money in the long run. It also fits with the other buildings on the campus.”

The new residence will provide more than 600 beds, a new daycare and approximately 150 underground parking spots. It will also help alleviate some of the problems students have experienced finding accommodations in the city. Regina’s rental vacancy rate over the last several years has been under two per cent.
