News Release Release Date: March 19, 2014 9:30 a.m.

Interest in the University of Regina continues to grow as applications for the Fall 2014 semester are up. With 75 per cent of the total applications for Fall 2014 now received, the University is showing a 15 per cent increase in applications over last year. Applications have more than doubled in the past three years.

More than 80 per cent of the increase is due to a hike in international student applications. The number of international undergraduate students at the University of Regina has increased by 17 per cent this year, while international graduate students currently represent about 30 per cent of the total number of graduate students on campus.

“We are pleased that so many new international students have chosen to pursue their educations here,” said University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons. “Our campus is a warm and welcoming place to study and live, and with the new residence set to open in 2015, we will be able to provide even more support to our incoming students.”

The Faculties of Engineering, Business Administration and Science are all seeing higher application numbers than last year. There are also increases in the number of out-of-province high school applications.

“What we are seeing is evidence that the opportunities offered by our Faculties are in high demand, from students across Canada,” said Timmons. “Of particular note is the increase in the number of applicants from Calgary, which shows that our targeted recruitment efforts are well-received and effective”

More than 13,500 students were registered at the University of Regina in the Fall 2013 semester.
