Nigerian students return to University of Regina

Victoria Ordu and Favour Amadi, two Nigerian students who were deported from Regina last fall have returned to Regina. Ordu and Amadi were welcomed back to the city on Saturday, and have been re-admitted to the University of Regina.

“I am so pleased to have these two students back on campus,” said University of Regina President and Vice Chancellor, Dr. Vianne Timmons. “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone – those on our campus and in the community – who helped support these students and their return to Regina. Now that this ordeal is behind them, they can focus on their dream of obtaining a university education.”

Ordu and Amadi will resume their classes this summer. Both students are on scholarship provided by the Nigerian government.

The University of Regina offers strong supports for international students through its UR International office. The University has seen a 77 per cent increase in international students over the past five years.

“Today is a day to celebrate,” stated Timmons. “I know the girls are looking forward to resuming their studies, and enjoying the hospitality Regina is so well known for.”
