Where could a new dining hall go on campus, if one were to be built? What about other future buildings? What kind of landscaping do we want to see and enjoy?

These were some of the questions explored over several months during the development of the University of Regina’s 2016 Campus Master Plan.

Now, the draft plan is ready to be presented at a December 1 public forum. It’s the third and final public forum before the plan is submitted to the Board of Governors for approval. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and the public are invited to attend and give their input.

The forum will be held from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Riddell Centre Multi-Purpose Room. Students attending can enter a draw to win an iPad.

“The ideas and input from our communities have been invaluable in crafting a longer-term vision of our campus that reflects our strategic plan and priorities. I look forward to continued participation as we present the draft 2016 Campus Master Plan,” says Vice-President Administration Dave Button.

The 2016 plan builds on the University’s previous master plans, which are updated about every five years. The plan establishes the future direction for development of the built form and landscape features of the University. This includes buildings and infrastructure, such as roads and pathways, as well as sports fields, landscaped areas and natural areas.

Some of the themes that have evolved from initial consultations in May were presented at a September public forum for further exploration and discussion. Ideas such as retaining a prairie-like, sustainable landscape, the challenges of surface parking, wind-protected connections, the Wascana Parkway frontage, and possible locations and design of a central food service/dining hall were part of the discussions.
